Nepal is India's natural companion — a short flight from Delhi that trades the palaces and plains for the Himalaya, the temple-filled Kathmandu Valley, and jungle lowlands teeming with rhino and tiger. Where India overwhelms with heritage and colour, Nepal answers with altitude and stillness, and the two together form one of the most complete journeys in the world.
What does Nepal add to an India journey?
Three things India cannot: the high Himalaya, seen at dawn from a ridgeline lodge; the living medieval cities of the Kathmandu Valley, where Bhaktapur and Patan hold some of the finest temple architecture in Asia; and the sacred Buddhist heart of Boudhanath and Swayambhunath, a gentle counterpoint to India's Hindu intensity.
For wildlife, Chitwan's lowland jungle offers greater one-horned rhino, wild elephant and tiger — a different ecosystem from India's reserves, and a superb pairing with them.
How to combine the two, and when
The classic route runs India first — the Golden Triangle and Rajasthan — before crossing to Kathmandu, then out to the mountains or down to Chitwan. A well-composed trip needs about four to six days in Nepal to feel more than a postscript, and it flows seamlessly by air.
The best window is October to December and March to April, when the mountains are clear. Elevated India composes the whole arc as a single journey, so Nepal becomes the serene, soaring climax after India's grandeur rather than a separate trip.
Questions, Answered
Is it worth visiting Nepal after India?
Yes. Nepal adds the high Himalaya, the temple cities of the Kathmandu Valley, the Buddhist calm of Boudhanath, and Chitwan's rhino-rich jungle — all a short flight from Delhi. It is a natural, complementary extension to a royal India circuit, ideally four to six days.
When is the best time to visit Nepal?
October to December and March to April offer the clearest mountain views and pleasant weather. These windows also align well with the ideal India season, making a combined India–Nepal journey easy to time. Elevated India composes the two as one seamless itinerary.
